As a freshman, I really struggled in joining and getting involved with clubs I had interests in. Why? Because none of them had set up an onboarding process! In order to learn, you had to build your skills from scratch or be lucky enough that one of the upperclassmen could spare the time to help you.
That’s why I, and many of my colleagues on the Mars Rover Team at JHU, pushed for workshops to teach incoming team members skills they need to get started on projects right away. To start, we held a Solidworks workshop for both new and former team members who had interest in CAD projects. The slides can be found here.
